Genre analysis is one of the most overlooked but critical aspects of good Bible study. Every day, we instinctively recognize different genres in movies, literature, or art, but when it comes to reading Scripture, it's easy to ignore. When we flatten Scripture this way, we risk misinterpreting its intended meaning, and thus rob it of its intended impact. In this course taught by Dr. Adam Christian, we will look at the importance of understanding genre, analyze key principles in genre analysis, and spend time practically applying them.

Adam Christian serves as the Adult Ministry Team Leader at Christian Fellowship Church in Evansville, Indiana. He served for several years as Director of Operations for Western Seminary’s Center for Leadership Development, and he is a two-time graduate of Western Seminary, with a Master of Arts in Biblical and Theological Studies, and a Master of Theology in New Testament. At Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Missouri, he has completed a Master of Theology with a concentration in Pedagogy, and a Ph.D. in New Testament. His Ph.D. dissertation engages the Synoptic Problem through the lens of oral tradition.

Adam, his wife, and their two children live in Evansville, Indiana, where Adam serves in church leadership. He loves music, and is involved in Village’s worship program. In his spare time, Adam loves to read both fiction and non-fiction books. The writings of J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis are particular favorites. He also enjoys all things technology, especially its use in education and in the sharing the Gospel and discipleship.
