While there are many things that all humans have in common, there are many more patterns of life that set different groups of humans apart. These diverse patterns make up what we know as culture. In most cases, embarking on a short-term mission trip will bring you face-to-face with a culture much different than your own. Sometimes, differences in culture are minor, but other times, if one is not prepared, they can be a source for frustration and miscommunication.

In this course, Dr. Mark Hedinger will lead you through some common areas where various cultures may view things differently, from the way we view relationships, to our partners of thinking, methods of communication, our orientation of time, and even the influence of the supernatural. The goal of this course is to open your mind to diverse patterns of life and help you learn how to navigate them effectively as you work among cultures all around the world.

Dr. Mark Hedinger is Executive Director of CultureBound, a ministry that prepares people for life and work in an unfamiliar language and culture. He holds a Master of Divinity, Master of Science in Botany, and Doctor of Missiology. Mark’s experiences and training include twelve years of traditional mission service followed by six years in mission leadership. Through CultureBound, he has helped to prepare men and women from the US, Peru, Egypt, Argentina, Uganda, Mexico, Panama and many other nations for intercultural ministry. Mark ministers routinely in English and in Spanish.
